"The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others." --Mohandas Gandhi
DPD Safe Place: We are proud to be the first business in the city and county of Denver to register for this program! This is a program sponsered by the Denver Police Department to partner with the community for the purpose of assisting victims of crime (specifically anti-LGBTQ bias motivated crimes). The programs purpose is to encourage reporting of these crimes, reduce anti-LGBTQ bullying and harassment by public awareness, and to provide a physical safe place for victims of crime, while they await the arrival of police.
Armed Forces Day of Service: On Armed Forces Day we partner with Volunteers of America to provide free, basic medical care,(including exams, vaccinations and microchips) for the dogs of those who have served our country. This is our way to help promote the human/animal bond with the understanding that the relationship we have with our pets is a cathartic one.
Denver Declaw Ban: Our founder, Dr. Lavizzo, was an intregal part in making the declawing of cats illegal in the city and county of Denver. Dr. Lavizzo provided city counsel with extensive research on the negative affects that this procedure has on our feline companions. Ultimately, city counsel unanimously voted to ban the procedure.
Home Outreach: Home Outreach is a program of PetAid Colorado (formerly Colorado Veterinary Medical Foundation), including partnerships with the Colorado Association of Certified Veterinary Technicians. More information is available here.
Good Samaritan Fund: Founded in 1993, thanks to the help of a special client with a big heart, the Good Samaritan Fund has helped many families and pets in need. All donations are used to help our patients and clients with urgent cases during times of hardship.
If you would like to donate to our Good Samaritan Fund to help needy cats and dogs in our community, please contact any team member.
ANAW: At the Africa Network for Animal Welfare their focus is the humane treatment of all animals for human welfare. We choose to align ourselves with this wonderful organization because they, too, promote the understanding and appreciation that animals are sentient beings. Visit their site to learn more: http://www.anaw.org/.
Cesar Chavez Day: The team at The Center for Animal Wellness is proud to honor the civil rights leader's legacy by participating in Colorado's Cesar Chavez Day of Service and Learning.
In 1962, Cesar Chavez founded the first successful farm workers' union in American history. He led the historic non-violent movement for farm worker rights and dedicated himself to building a movement of poor working people. To commemorate Chavez's life and legacy, the Governor's Commission on Community Service has launched a statewide effort promoting the Cesar Chavez Day of Service and Learning.
In honor of this Day of Service and Learning, The Center for Animal Wellness partners with The Coalition for the Homeless to provide various free services, including exams, heartworm tests, and vaccines to patients in need.

I was visiting the Santa Fe Arts District and my small pup needed a prescription refill. TCAW helped me very quickly. I’m impressed!
